Wayleave agreements

Postby PJWalsh » Sun Feb 05, 2012 1:22 am

Hi,

Can anyone tell me anything about wayleave agreements? I'm looking to buy a house with some land and there is mention in the deeds of a wayleave agreement. I can see it hasd something to do with electricity buy I'm not sure what it is?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Paul

Westy will be able to answer your question with authority but I did once own a property with an electricity wayleave attached, basically I received a cheque every year ( about £3.50 ) because there was a cable passing through my boundary that wasn't delivering electric to my property.

As I understand, this is correct, normally for a pole etc, by accepting this payment it also gives the said company right of access for any maintenance.
I know of a difficult farmer who refuses the payment, and then makes it difficult for the DNO to complete any works.

I hope this helps
